Reading Room is a space for deep reading and shared perspectives. At a time when we keep buying books yet rarely find moments for slow, uninterrupted reading, umum+ hopes to create an environment for reflection and exchange. Each participant is requested to bring in one book, and come to read the books brought by the others, which forms a temporary and nomadic library.
This second edition turns to typology books, collections that classify and catalogue, revealing our quiet obsessions and the repeated urge to study a single object, scene, or phenomenon. Stones gathered on travels, walls photographed over years, or the familiar forms of a chair or a hand all become subjects of fascination. Visual designer Di Mao, known for her manuals and typological studies, will share her recent manual on cleaning tools and discuss how typology transforms curiosity into investigation.
